On Saturday morning there is the possibility to visit the Lake Constance Water Supply (Bodensee-Wasserversorgung (BWV)) in Sipplingen.
BWV is promoting with the motto “Water moves us” a reliable water supply. This administration union was founded by 13 cities and municipalities in the year 1954 in order to cover the ever increasing demand for drinking water using make-up water from Lake Constance. Today 320 cities and municipalities with a population of about 4 million obtain drinking water of the best quality from the Lake Constance Water Supply.
Lake Constance water supply draws raw water from the Lake near Überlingen at a depth of 60 m. There it is pure, clear und well protected. There are 3 intake towers on the bottom of the lake, each of these 10 m high. Via 3 intake pipes the water is transported by natural pressure to the pumping station by the lake. Three pumps lift the water 310 m up to the treatment plant on Sipplinger Berg. Presentation and explanation of the process of water treatment will be the center of the tour.
